St John the Evangelist

Otara, Auckland

St John the Evangelist Primary School required a complete rebuild. A previously aging and unsafe school (with high-tension and voltage overhead powerlines), the school was transformed through this project into a warm, welcoming community environment.

The works consisted of staged demolition, including asbestos removal and the careful construction of new school buildings within close proximity to existing buildings. The large site had to be delicately navigated as it is shared by the School, the local Catholic Parish, Te Whaiora Marae, Kohanga Reo and a Preschool.

The new Primary School features a large two-storey block, housing multiple classrooms, a library, media drama rooms and an administration block. Exterior works includes extensive tiger turf play areas, potted gardens, a kaumātua shelter and infrastructure upgrades for the whole site, including an extensive swale garden for stormwater management.
